Artist's Description
Hawaiian honu, or green Hawaiian sea turtle is a symbol of longevity, peace, good luck, humility, long life and the spirit within and of the navigator that is able to find its way home time and time again, just as in real life. It's also believed the giant turtle guided the first people to Hawaii and the Hawaiian legend says the green sea turtle could change into a girl and protect the children of Hawaii. The green Hawaiian turtle will swim hundreds of miles to its own birthing place to lay eggs.
This fun painting I created using acrylic on watercolor paper.

About Darice Machel McGuire
Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats. Three of the five galleries that represented her work were destroyed by the Lahaina fire. The two remaining galleries are Karen Lei's Gallery in Kahakuloa and Karen Lei's...
